A 10-member Iranian Expert Group, headed by Dr. Abbas Kargar, Director of Combating Desertification Bureau of Iran, including National Project Coordinator, Chief Advisor of land degradation project of FAO and relevant provincial project managers visited the Institute of Desertification Studies (IDS), Chinese Academy of Forestry (CAF) on  12 – 13 November 2012.

The Expert Group gained insight on the organizational structure/priority research areas of the IDS/CAF. Dr. Qi Lu, Director of IDS, CAF introduced the technical achievement and strategy of prevention and control of desertification in China. The Expert Group highly appreciated the accomplishment and showed keen interest in China’s commitment process of the convention, relevant policies and research progress in field of DLDD mitigation. The Group also visited the exhibition showing the achievements in desertification research, experiment labs and the demonstration sites of prevention and control of desertification.
