The aim of this Law is to provide for necessary measures for exercising sovereign rights with regard to fisheries and other activities in the EEZ with a view to ensuring proper conservation and management of the marine living resources through the appropriate exercise of rights laid down in the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. The main provisions relate to the exercise of fishing by foreign fishermen in the Japanese EEZ and total allowable catch.
