The object of this Act is to protect indigenous plant and animal species from extinction. It prohibits, subject to exceptions, the taking, engaging in commercial activity with, holding possession of or exporting of any threatened or endangered species of plant or animal or parts thereof designated as such under this Act or any Regulation issued under it.
