"Dike" is defined in section 1 as "an embankment, wall, fill, piling, pump, gate, floodbox, pipe, sluice, culvert, canal, ditch, drain or any other thing that is constructed, assembled or installed to prevent the flooding of land". The Act provides for an Inspector of Dikes who is to supervise all dikes and the operation of all diking authorities (sect. 2). The Act lists the inspector's powers as well as obligations of diking authorities and offences under the Act.
