The purpose of these Regulations is to implement the beef labelling requirements of Regulation 820/97 of the European Council, as expanded by Commission Regulations 1141/97 and 2406/97. Under the Regulations any operator or organization labelling fresh or frozen beef and veal, with anything other than certain information easily checked at the point of sale, must obtain the prior approval of the Minister for Agriculture and food.
