The purpose of this Act is to assists in the conservation of great apes by supporting and providing financial resources for the conservation programs of countries within the range of great apes. It establishes in the Multinational Species Conservation Fund a separate account to be known as the "Great Ape Conservation Fund". Under the Act, Great apes include the chimpanzee, gorilla, bonobo, orang utan, and gibbon. The Act authorizes the Secretary of the Interior, through the Director of the Fish
