This Decree establishes minimum standards for the protection of animals bred or kept for farming purposes. Owners or keepers must ensure the welfare of animals under their care and to ensure that those animals are not caused any unnecessary pain, suffering or injury. Regional authorities responsible for health and experts of the European Commission shall carry out inspections in order to verify the compliance with this Decree.
