The present Regulations enforce the Canadian Environmental Protection Act 1999 (S.C. 1999, c. 33). In particular, the Regulations set the criteria which will be used to determine, if a substance is persistent or bioaccumulative under certain sections of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999.
