Under section 1, for the purposes of these regulations a person makes a polar bear defence kill if the person kills a polar bear in order (a) to prevent the starvation of a person; (b) to preserve the life of a person; or (c) to protect property. The regulations define the information that needs to be transmitted to the responsible officers after a polar bear defence kill.
