The objectives of this Agreement shall be convergence of the approaches of the signatory states in the field of regulatory and normative technical regulation, conformity assessment, standardization, accreditation and metrological support in relation to produce (including those imported to the CIS member states) for which are applicable the requirements related to safety in the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, the design processes (including exploration) construction, installation, commissioning, decommissioning, operation, storage, transportation, trade, disposal, burial of the substances, as well as the development of a coordinated policy and the definition of the main lines of business in the field of technical regulation related to the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. The activity shall be based upon the following principles: (a) harmonization of mandatory requirements; (b) priority of ensuring nuclear and radiation safety; (c) uniformity of terminology; (d) uniformity of classification of processes and produce; (e) mandatory compliance assessment; and (f) mandatory uniformity of metrology.
The Agreement shall be open-ended. Each Party has the right to withdraw from this Agreement by sending written notice of such intention not later than six months before the date of withdrawal from the Agreement.
