The Andorran Environmental Education Strategy for Sustainability (EAEAS) is a national strategy of Andorra for the period up to 2030 that represents Andorra's first step towards achieving an education global strategy for sustainable development, as an instrument to guarantee that all people, whatever their age, have access to education, tools and values to be able to face the current challenges and take decisions and establish collective or individual actions that will have a positive impact for to global development. The EAEAS seeks to define strategic topics, areas and working instruments around environmental education for sustainability.
The beginning of the elaboration of the Andorran Environmental Education Strategy for the Sustainability was conceived as a necessity to define the priority actions in order to sensitize citizens around the environmental problems, both current and future. As it is the result of the work carried out within the framework of the Pyrenean Environmental Education Strategy for the Sustainability and Valorization of Heritage (POCTEFA ADNPYR), it was considered appropriate to adopt it following the same strategic lines as those used in the Pyrenean context. Thus, for each strategic line defined in the Pyrenean Strategy, both a Pyrenean territory vision and an Andorran territory vision are taken in consideration. The following are the strategic lines: 1. favor the sustainable management of the Pyrenees by strengthening the dynamics of coordination, participation of the population and reconnection with the rural world (inhabitants, visitors) and nature; 2. promote awareness and training actions for elected officials, territorial technicians and socio-professionals of the Pyrenees around environmental values, biodiversity and the link between health and the environment, and support the tourism sector in diversification of the offer; 3. encourage the participation of political leaders and society in adapting to climate change and mitigating its effects; 4. emphasize the positive impact of environmental education for the sustainable development of the Pyrenees; 5. communicate and share knowledge.
The Andorran Environmental Education Strategy for Sustainability counted on the joint work of different ministries, as well as public and/or private bodies: the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, the Ministry of Environment, Agriculture and Sustainability and the Andorra Research and Innovation private foundation. As a result of all the notes and reflections from those stakeholders, a proposal for nine actions has been drawn up and detailed in the "Definition of the new actions to be developed" section of the strategy. The actions are the following: 1. Green and healthy yards; 2. Going from school to nature; 3. The school material... sustainability inside and outside the school; 4. Environmental education for sustainability in schools; 5. Take action: young people facing the climate crisis; 6. Intergenerational environmental volunteering programs; 7. The creation of an environmental education portal; 8. Communication and dissemination: good practice campaigns; 9. We pay attention to environmental education for sustainability.
The planning, coordinating and reviewing of all actions, measures and projects aimed at the achievement of the defined objectives makes the object of the monitoring and review process and implementation of the strategy.
In the definition of a horizon for the achievement of all actions and proposals that arise of the strategy, 2030 has been considered a convenient deadline. During these nine years, the nine new actions outlined above are proposed, each of them with a specified starting period. The Strategy will undergo two revisions: in 2025, when all the actions will have already begun and in 2028, when the majority of actions will be finished or about to finish. The purpose of revisions is to adapt the Strategy to the new knowledge, whether technical, economic or social, to the new obligations that may derive from the international and national situation, as well as to the achievement of the objectives set for each area.
The responsible ministries will be in charge of implementing the actions included in the Strategy, disseminate the document to the rest of the Administration and give technical support to implement it at all levels. Likewise, it is considered essential to create a cooperative group to monitor, evaluate and guarantee the quality of the Strategy. This group must include the participation of different sectors linked to environmental education for the sustainability and development of the present Strategy.
