These Regulations make amendments to subordinate legislation, which applies to Northern Ireland only, in relation to exotic animal disease. They do so to address failures of domestic legislation to operate effectively and other deficiencies (in particular, under paragraphs (a), (d) and (g) of section 8(2) of the European Union (Withdrawal) Act) in EU-derived domestic legislation arising from the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union. The amendments, among other things, refer to retained EU law, i.e. EU legislation retained in the UK as domestic law.
