This Government Resolution approves the National Policy for Public Water Supply. The Policy aims to establish the vision and objectives of the Government of Timor-Leste in relation to National and International commitments assumed to provide equitable access to adequate, safe and sustainable water services and at an affordable cost for all citizens. It contains the guiding principles that allow the vision of universal access to a public water supply to be translated into strategies and plans, and the related implementing provisions for the benefit of the population and the socio-economic development of the country in a sustainable way. In particular, its objective is to guide all the stakeholders involved in the public water supply process, from its regulation, planning, design, financing, construction, operation and maintenance, monitoring and rehabilitation of assets, namely the government departments responsible for the matter, Bee Timor-Leste EP, National Authority for Water and Sanitation IP, Municipal Administrations and Authorities and future local authorities, the Special Administrative Region of Oe-Cusse Ambeno (RAEOA), communities, as well as consumers/users of the respective service, aiming at access to a reliable and potable water supply system based on the country's political objectives in terms of poverty reduction, gender equality, environmental sustainability and economic growth, being aligned with the Strategic Development Plan 2011-2030 of Timor-Leste and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals for 2030.
