This Ministerial Decision, defining the necessary institutional framework for the implementation, management and monitoring of Sub-measure 14.1. "Good treatment of caged pigs" of Measure 14 "Good treatment of animals", concerns the promotion of well-being and the good treatment of productive animals and their breeding, providing for specific actions and commitments of breeders, in addition to those imposed by the European and National Legislation. The main objective of this Decision is to improve the conditions of Greek breeding in the field of indoor pig farming which have, directly or indirectly, effects on the expression of normal behaviour and on the health of the animals. The Decision defines: the competent authorities and bodies; the following terms: active farmer; integrated system; Integrated Information System for Rural Development; veterinary database; livestock farm; animal husbandry licence.
Matters covered by this Decision concern: eligibility criteria for beneficiaries of the measures; minimum conditions to fulfil; commitments of beneficiaries, including: animal welfare requirements, animal feed and water quality used in pig farms; categories of animals related to the financial support; selection criteria for the submission of support application; administrative matters related to the application; transfer of farm and livestock; penalties relating to declared animals; exemptions from administrative penalties; extraordinary circumstances, including serious natural disaster that causes the death of some or all of the animals or significant damage to the farm, epizootic disease affecting part or all of the beneficiary's animals, expropriation of all or a significant part of the farm.
