This Ministerial Order establishes the Structure of the General Directorate for Territorial Planning (DGOT). It establishes and regulates the structure of the General Directorate for Territory Planning of the Ministry of Planning (MPO). The DGOT is a central service of the Ministry of Planning integrated in the direct administration of the State and responsible for ensuring the implementation of the national territorial planning policy, including urban planning, coastal planning, geospatial and cartographic information, promoting national cohesion, while ensuring protection and enhancement of cultural and natural heritage. In particular, the DGOT is responsible for: a) Elaborating the necessary instruments for the development of the public policy of territorial planning, in compliance with general principles and objectives enshrined in the respective Basic Law of Planning; b) Develop the technical bases for the formulation and application of the policy contained in the Basic Law of Territorial Planning, promoting its execution, monitoring and evaluation, in coordination with the related Ministries; c) Develop the necessary mechanisms for the promotion and effective consolidation of the territorial management system; d) Propose the legal and regulatory framework to support territorial planning policies; Carry out technical studies in the areas of land use planning, etc.
