This National Action Plan represents the Dutch government commitment to encourage the respect of human rights in business activities and to prevent companies from abusing human rights directly and within supply chains, in compliance with the United Nations guiding principles on the matters. The Action Plan provides for: current state of the Policy, including agreements to improve working conditions in the agriculture and horticulture sectors; active role of the government; sustainable procurement Policy; trade and investment agreements, within the European Union framework and towards Third Countries; identification of risks and threats to the human rights; reporting initiatives; judicial and non-judicial remedies. The Action Plan contains the guiding principles on business and human rights and particularly provides for: promoting respect of human rights in conflict areas; general and fundamental principles; corporate responsibility to respect human rights; due regard for different risks between women and men; promoting respect for human rights by companies during business activities.
