This Regulation, with the purpose of rational management and protection of bluefin tuna, including the economic fishing of bluefin tuna by the surrounding nets, here prescribes the implementing rules as regards the Regulation (EU) 2016/1627 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 14 September 2016 on a multi-annual recovery plan for bluefin tuna in the eastern Atlantic and the Mediterranean, and repealing Council Regulation (EC) No 302/2009.
This text also provides for related fishing conditions; conditions for the exercise of the right to quota allocation; transfer of the right to enter the encircling or surrounding nets from one to another holder of commercial fishing authorization at sea; national quota for the fishing of bluefin tuna by such nets (fishing gear/method); fees for allocated quotas; method and conditions for the issuance and transfer of tuna catchment permits, and further sets the necessary data delivery, sampling, landing and transhipment, traffic, joint fishing activities, register of vessels engaged in catch, transport, breeding and unloading of tuna, cultivation of tuna, including the placing of tuna in breeding cages and traps, and finally sets the relation and programme of boat observers present on fishing vessels.
