This Regulation prescribes the rules for the production and placing on the market of eggs for hatching and offspring of domestic poultry, including issues as regards the import of such eggs from European Union member states and imports from third countries. This text further ensures the implementation of the rules contained in the Commission Regulation (EC) No. 617/2008 laying down detailed rules for implementing Regulation (EC) No. 1234/2007 as regards marketing standards for eggs for hatching and farmyard poultry chicks. The provisions of this Regulation shall not apply to producers of hatching eggs for the production of breeding poultry and other manufacturers of hatching eggs for the production of poultry meat and table eggs with less than 100 pieces of poultry and hatcheries with a capacity of less than 1000 hatching eggs.
