This Regulation, based on the provisions of the Slovenian Animal Protection Act, sets measures for the protection of animals used for scientific or educational purposes; more detailed rules on replacing and reducing the use of animals in such procedures and improving the breeding, housing, care and use of animals used; the origin, breeding, marking, care, accommodation and killing of those animals; operation of breeding, supply and user organizations; evaluation and approval of projects involving the use of animals in related procedures, in accordance with Directive 2010/63/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 22 September 2010 on the protection of animals used for scientific purposes. These rules shall apply if animals are used or intended for use in procedures and if the animals are bred for the purpose of using their tissues or organs for scientific or educational purposes, and until such animals are killed, returned to their original place, in breeding or in suitable natural environment.
