This Act ensures that use and protection of water bodies are subject to a planning following a comprehensive assessment of the grounds. Included in these requirements is the coordination of the existing water supply, a planned expansion and operation of an adequate and satisfactory quality water supply and quality of drinking water.

This Act does not apply to Greenland nor the Faroe Islands.
