In this case, the defendants were accused of trading ivory goods. They were arrested with more than 332 ivory pieces in their possessions

The prosecutor sued them for illegal trade of trophies of protected species and, in the light of the evidences; the court sentenced them to a three months imprisonment penalty and to pay a five millions CFA Francs fine.

The importance of this case rely on the fact that it is the first Senegalese court decision which applies the prohibition of trade of protected species. Indeed, even if trade of protected species is banned by the Senegalese national framework and Senegal is a party to CITES, no condemnation had taken place before.
