Following the adoption of the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM) in February 2006, the regional meetings called for in the SAICM Overarching Policy Strategy by the International Conference on Chemicals Management (ICCM) in its resolution I/1 will be a key element in the collective efforts to commence implementation of SAICM. The third of such regional meetings is the Central and Eastern Europe regional meeting on SAICM which will be held in Riga, Latvia, from 4 to 6 December 2006. The meeting is being organized by the SAICM secretariat in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment of Latvia. The first regional meeting was the Africa regional meeting held in Cairo, Egypt, from the 11-14 September, and the second, the EU-JUSSCANNZ meeting on SAICM will take place in Barcelona, Spain from 20 to 22 November 2006
