Due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation in Italy as well as globally, it is not feasible to organize POPRC-16 as initially planned as a face-to-face meeting in Rome, from 14 to 18 September 2020. Taking into account the work requirements of the Committee as well as schedules of other major international meetings in particular those related to chemicals and waste, and following consultations with the members of the Committee and the Secretariat, the POPRC Bureau agreed that the Committee will hold its sixteenth meeting from 11 to 15 January 2021. The meeting could be held either face-to-face in Geneva, should the situation in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic permit, or otherwise online. The decision on whether the meeting will be held face-to-face or online will be taken by early October 2020 to allow sufficient time for travel and other logistical arrangements. At its sixteenth meeting, the Committee will consider, among other things, draft risk profiles on Dechlorane Plus and its syn-isomer and anti-isomer, and on methoxychlor. The Committee will also consider a proposal for the inclusion of UV-328 in Annexes A, B and/or C to the Convention submitted by the Government of Switzerland. Other items on the provisional agenda of the meeting pertain to the review of information related to specific exemptions for decabromodiphenyl ether and short-chain chlorinated paraffins, the evaluation and review of progress made by Parties towards eliminating brominated diphenyl ethers contained in articles and their continued need for the specific exemptions for those chemicals, and the review of an indicative list of substances covered by the listing of perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), its salts and PFOA-related compounds.
