This Act makes provisions for both the health and welfare of animals in Scotland. It amends the Animal Health Act 1981 in parts dealing with the outbreak of diseases, in particular Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies (TSEs) in livestock. For this purpose, the Act make provision for the establishment of a breeding programme aiming at breed resistance.
