This Decision adopts the Community eco-label working plan for the period from 1 January 2002 to 31 December 2004, in compliance with Regulation (EC) No. 1980/2000 on a revised Community eco-label award scheme. The Community eco-label was introduced in order to encourage businesses to develop products with a reduced environmental impact throughout their whole life cycle, and to provide consumers with better information about these impacts. The fundamental aim of this working plan is to lay down the programme of work for the period above-mentioned that will: (a) make the eco-label a more successful and effective instrument for improving the environmental quality of products and services; (b) contribute to making consumption more sustainable; (c) make the most effective use of the resources allocated to the scheme by the Commission, the Member States and the members of the European Union Eco-labelling Board.
