Member States shall ensure that the suspected occurrence or confirmed presence of Diabrotica virgifera le Conte is reported to their own responsible official bodies within the meaning of Directive 2000/29/EC. In addition, Member States shall each year conduct official surveys for the presence of the organism in areas in their territory, where maize is grown. When the results of those surveys confirm the presence of the organism in an area which was previously known to be free from the organism, they shall define demarcated zones consisting of the parts specified under article 3, i. e. focus zone and safety zone.
