The purpose of this Directive is to supplement, in the light of advances in technical and scientific knowledge, the guidelines contained in Directive 87/153/EEC in matter of assessment of additives in animal nutrition. The text laid down in the Annex hereby attached shall be entirely inserted in Directive 87/153/EEC. Part I is devoted exclusively to additives other than microorganisms and enzymes. It consists of the following Sections: (I) Summary of the data in the dossier; (II) Identity, characterisation and conditions of use of the additive; methods of control; (III) Studies concerning the efficacy of the additive; (IV) Studies concerning the safety of use of the additive; (V) Form of monograph; (VI) Form of identification note; (VII) Renewal of authorization of additives submitted to a brand-specific approval; (VIII) New applicant relying on the first authorization of an additive whose authorization is linked to a person responsible for putting them into circulation. Point 4.3.2 of Section IV lays down maximum residue levels. Point 4.5 of the same Section is devoted to the environmental risk assessment (consisting of three different phases) to be carried out. Lastly, Part II of the Annex regards microorganisms and enzymes.
