This Ministerial Regulation formulates rules relative to food for special nutritional purposes implementing EC Council Directive 89/398/EC). The Directive gives criteria which should be complied with in trade of products for food for special nutritional purposes. Food for special nutritional purposes is defined as food which meets the nutritional needs of: certain categories of persons of which the food assimilation process is disturbed; certain categories of persons who are in such physiological condition that they may expect benefit from the taking in of food of certain substances in food or beverages; of infants who enjoy normal health condition (art. 1). It is forbidden to trade in food for special nutritional purposes which is not conform the rules of this Regulation (art. 2). Introduction on the market of food for special nutritional purposes shall be reported to the Minister by the producer or the importer (art. 4). Articles 6 to 9 contain rules with respect to labelling of such food. (17 articles completed by an Attachment containing a list of categories of food for special nutritional purposes for which specific rules may be issued by the Minister)
