These Regulations implement specified Community Directives on food additives generally and on colours and sweeteners in particular, which are listed below. All food additives must comply with the provisions in Part I of the Regulations while, in addition, sweeteners and colours used as food additives must comply with the provisions in Parts II and III respectively.
The 23 regulations are divided into 4 Parts: General provisions on food additives; Sweeteners for use in foodstuffs; Colours for use in foodstuffs; Final provisions.
These Regulations shall apply to all food additives coming within the various categories of food additives listed in Schedule I and which are used or intended to be used as ingredients during the manufacture or preparation of a foodstuff and are still present in the final product, even if in altered form.
