These Regulations give legal effect in Ireland to Regulation (EC) No. 396/2005 concerning legislation controlling pesticide residues in certain agricultural products.
They stipulate that a person shall not possess, sell or supply a product if the product contains within it or on it a pesticide residue the level of which exceeds the maximum level set in accordance with the Community Regulation. They also provide for the appointment of authorized officers and define functions and powers of such officers. Authorized officers may issue compliance notices for purposes of protecting human health, animal health or welfare or the environment including preventing the contamination of food.
