These Regulations which supersede and consolidate with amendments the Imported Food Regulations of 1968, contain measures for the protection of public health in relation to imported food.
The 26 Regulations are divided into 4 Parts: Preliminary (I); All Imported Food (II); Meat and Meat Products (III); General (IV).
The Regulations implement various EC Council Directives. Provisions of Part II deal with imported food generally, and prohibit the importation of food which is unfit for human consumption, or is unsound or unwholesome. Imported food may be examined by an authorized officer of an enforcing authority. They also provide for analysis of food by an analyst of an authority other than a port authority. Part III deals with imported meat and meat products which may not be imported for sale or human consumption unless they bear a health mark and are packed and transported as specified. This Part also requires a health certificate for fresh meat and meat products and provides for the disposal of meat imported contrary to these provisions. (completed by 11 Schedules)
