This Act provides with respect to the acquisition of land or rights in land for public purposes. The Minister may direct the acquiring officer to investigate in the suitability of land for acquisition and to serve notices of investigation or intended acquisition on the custom owners or persons interested in the land. The Minister shall decide whether that land or easement shall be acquired after having heard possible objections of owners and the acquiring officer's recommendations on those objections. Where the Minister decides under section 4 that a particular land or easement should be acquired under this Act, he or she shall make a written declaration to that effect. Other provisions concern compensation and other procedures for the taking of possession by the State and appeals to the Supreme Court.
