These Regulations implement Annex VI (Regulations for the Prevention of Air Pollution from Ships) of the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships, 1973, as modified by the Protocol of 1978. The Regulations, among other things: provide for control emissions of ozone-depleting substances, nitrogen oxide and sulphur oxide; provide for the survey and certification of ships; make provision in relation to powers of inspection and detention of ships.
