The Decree aims at implementing the provisions of article 7 of Law No. 1650/86 on the protection for the environment. It also aims at harmonizing the Greek legislative frame with the provisions of Directive 2000/69/EC relating to limit values for benzene and carbon monoxide in ambient air so as to ensure that all appropriate measures are taken in order to avoid, prevent or reduce harmful effects on human health and the environment which might arise from concentrations of benzene and carbon monoxide in ambient air. The Decree is composed as follows: objective (art. 1); definitions (ambient air, upper and lower assessment thresholds, etc. (art. 2); benzene (art. 3); carbon monoxide (art. 4); protective measures required in the event of limit values being exceeded (art. 5); requirements in the event of non-exceedance of limit values (art. 6); assessment of concentrations (art. 7); transmission of information and reports to the Commission (art. 8); public information (art. 9); sanctions (art. 10). The thirteen Annexes included in the text constitute integral part of this Decree.
