The purpose of this Decree is to adapt the Greek legislative framework to the provisions of EU Directive 2000/59/EC, as regards the protection of the marine environment by reducing the discharges of ship-generated waste and cargo residues into the sea. This may be achieved by improving the availability and use of port reception facilities for such waste. The Decree establishes the rules and procedures for waste reception and delivery of cargo residues, handling plans, fees for ship-generated waste according to the provisions of the Directive.
