This Order revokes and replaces a series of exemption orders made under the Radioactive Substances Act 1993 and its predecessor (the Radioactive Substances Act 1960 in order to rationalize the current system of exemptions and align this more closely with the structure and terminology used in the Basic Safety Standards Directive. Particular provision is made in relation to the disposal of various kinds of radioactive waste, whether from natural sources or contamination.
