Definition(s)
'Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation' is a mechanism being developed by Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change to reward developing countries for reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation. The extension of the concept, REDD+, creates an incentive for developing countries to protect, better manage and wisely use their forest resources, and in so doing contribute to conserving biodiversity and to the global fight against climate change. In addition to the environmental benefits, REDD+ also offers social and economic benefits.
