This Regulation made by the Ministry of Industry under Animal Welfare Act, provides rules, additional to those of the Act regarding the humane treatment of animals, the keeping of animals (also from a health perspective), the slaughtering of animal, experiments carried out on animals, transport of live animals, etc. The Regulation also provides some rules for the capture of wild animals for animal testing. The Swedish Board of Agriculture may issue further rules for purposes of the Act and this Regulation. The National Food Administration shall, through the official veterinarians and the official assistants at slaughterhouses, carry out the animal welfare checks that an official veterinarian or an official assistant is required to perform in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 854/2004 of the European Parliament and of the Council. Rules shall also apply to fish. The Swedish Board of Agriculture shall be the reponsible authority for purposes of EU legislation, notably Regulation (EC) No 882/2004 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 29 April 2004 on official controls performed to ensure the verification of compliance with feed and food law, animal health and animal welfare rules, Council Regulation (EC) No 1/2005 on the protection of animals during transport and related operations and amending Directives 64/432/EEC and 93/119/EC and Regulation (EC) No 1255/9, and Council Regulation (EC) No. 1099/2009 on the protection of animals at the time of killing.
