An Act to amend and extend the laws relating to fisheries, to prohibit persons from engaging in aquaculture except with and in accordance with a licence to establish a procedure for the granting, renewal, amendment and revocation of licences, to allow for appeals against decisions relating to licences, and for connected purposes.
The Act regulates fish farming and related matters. "Aquaculture" in this Act means"the culture or farming of any species of fish, aquatic invertebrate animal of whatever habitat or aquatic plant, or any aquatic form of food suitable for the nutrition of fish" (sect. 3). A person who, at any place or in any waters, engages in aquaculture except under and in accordance with an aquaculture licence, a trial licence, or an oyster bed licence or an oyster fishery order shall be guilty of an offence (
All Acts up to and including the Criminal Justice (Amendment) Act 2021 (36/2021), enacted 8 December 2021, and all statutory instruments up to and including the Aquaculture Licensing Appeals (Fees) Regulations 2021 (S.I. No. 771 of 2021), made 8 December 2021, were considered in the preparation of this Revised Act.
