These Regulations implement those parts of Council regulation 91/493/EC which where not implemented by the Food Safety (Fishery Products) (Derogations) Regulations 1992. They also relate to Council Directive 92/48/EC (the "Fishing Vessel Directive"), which is implemented by the Food Safety (Fishery Products on Board of Fishing Vessels) Regulations 1992. The present Regulations impose requirements contained in the Directive in relation to placing fishery products, aquaculture products, and live bivalve molluscs on the market for human consumption. They prohibit placing on the market of specified fishery products which are harmful, impose requirements concerning gutting and the care of fishery products which are to placed on the market alive. They also provide for the approval of factory vessels and establishments if they meet the requirements of the Directive. Other provisions impose requirements on proprietors of factory vessels and establishments and provide for the registration of certain fishing vessels on which shrimps and molluscs are processed by cooking. They also provide for offences and penalties. (24 regulations and 6 Schedules)
