This Act provides for the establishment of the Mineral Resources Authority and defines its functions and powers and internal organization.
The Authority is established as a body corporate and shall: (a) advice the Minister on matters relating to mining and the management, exploitation and development of Papua New Guinea s mineral resources; (b) promote the orderly exploitation for the development of the country s mineral resources; (c) oversee the administration and enforcement of the Mining Act 1992 and other specified legislation relating to mining; and (d) carry out other functions assigned to it by or under this Act. The Act also establishes the Mineral Resources Authority Board. The Board shall perform the functions, exercise the powers and manage and direct the administrative affairs of the Authority.
