These Regulations are formulated in accordance with the Law of the People's Republic of China on the Protection of Wildlife. The 45 articles of are divided into 7 Chapters: General Provisions (I); Protection of Wildlife (II); Administration of Hunting and Catching of Wildlife (III); Administration of Domestication and Breeding of Wildlife (IV); Administration of Business Operation and Utilization of Wildlife (V); Awards and Penalties (VI); Supplementary Provisions (VII).
The competent department of forestry administration under the State Council shall be responsible for the nationwide administration of terrestrial wildlife (art. 3). General surveys of the wildlife resources shall be conducted once every ten years (art. 7). The hunting, catching or killing of wildlife under special protection by the State shall be prohibited. If, under any of the cases specified in article 11, the hunting and catching of wildlife under special protection by the State is necessary, the organization concerned must apply for a special hunting and catching license. Chapter 4 and 5 provide also for the domestication, breeding, sale and purchase, and export of key protected wild animals.
