The Convention regulates the collection, storage, treatment and discharge of waste form ships, with a view to protect the environment and control inland water pollution in the areas concerned. The Convention applies to the watercourses listed in Annex 1. The surveillance and control of the proper implementation of the Convention is entrusted to the Conference of Contracting Parties, established according to the provisions of articles 14 and 15. Further provisions concern the obligations of Contracting Parties and financial measures. The Convention is integrated by two Annexes. Annex 1 contains a list of watercourses to which the Convention applies; Annex 2 contains the regulations for the implementation of the Convention. In particular, they concern the collection and on-board treatment of waste, and establish a special regime for the disposal of oil, hydrocarbons, sludge and waste water.
