Council Directive 75/440/EEC concerning the quality required of surface water intended for the abstraction of drinking water in the Member States, and in particular article 5 (2) thereof, provides for the adoption of a Community policy regarding the frequency of sampling and analysis of parameters, along with methods of measurement. The present Directive concerns the reference methods of measurement and frequencies of sampling and analysis for the parameters listed in Annex II to Directive 75/440/EEC, which has been replaced by Directive 2000/60/EC. Member States shall as far as possible use the reference methods of measurement referred to in Annex I. The minimum annual frequencies of sampling and analysis for each parameter are set out in Annex II.
