These Regulations consolidate and replace the Food Labelling Regulations 1984, the Food Labelling (Scotland) Regulations 1984, and the Milk Labelling (Scotland) Regulations 1983 and continue to implement Council Directive No. 79/112/EC as amended. The principal provisions of this Regulations: (1) require all food which is ready for delivery to the ultimate consumer to be marked and labelled in accordance with regulation 5; (b) make special provisions for the labelling of food which is not prepacked; (c) specify additional labelling requirements for food sold from vending machines; (d) require specific cautionary statements to be given with raw milk; (e) specify requirements as to the manner of marking or labelling of food.
The 50 regulations are divided into 5 Parts: Preliminary (I); Food to be delivered as such to the ultimate consumer or to caterers (II); Claims, nutrition labelling and misleading descriptions (III); Offences and penalties (IV); Revocations, amendments and transitional provisions (V). The text is completed by 9 Schedules.
