The placing on the market of Community aquaculture animals and aquaculture products either for breeding purposes or human consumption must satisfy general health requirements, set out on the basis of the list of Annex A regarding diseases and susceptible species. Special requirements established in details by Annexes B and C must be met by continental and coastal zones and farms in order to be approved by the Commission.
Additional guarantees are required for the placing on the market of live fish and live molluscs (articles 7 and 8), aquaculture products for human consumption (article 9), and live farmed fish - molluscs or crustaceans - not belonging to the susceptible species referred to in Annex A.
The imports of aquaculture animals and products from third countries is regulated by Chapter 3. The Commission shall draw up a list of third countries, taking into account the following conditions: 1) the state of health of the animals, particular attention being paid to exotic diseases and the environmental health situation in the third country; 2) the regularity and rapidity of the information supplied by the country relating to the existence of diseases; 3) the rules and implementation measures for the prevention and control of diseases; 4) the structure of the official services in the third country.
Other provisions concern restrictions on the imports of animals and the issuance of a certificate by the official services of the exporting third country.
