These Regulations implement the Directives on food additives generally and on colours and sweeteners in particular. These Regulations should be read in conjunction with the Directives which are implemented by these Regulations and listed in regulation 2. The Regulations prescribe standards for the use of colours and sweeteners in as used in specified food.

These Regulations revoke the European Communities (General Provisions on the Control of Additives, and in particular Colours and Sweeteners for use in foodstuffs) Regulations, 1995 (S.I. No. 344 of 1995).
